What to Expect from a Feasibility Study with RISE Design Studio
by Sean Hill on Jan 16, 2025
When planning a new project - whether it’s a home extension, a renovation, or a new build - it’s essential to understand what’s possible before committing significant time and money. This is where a Feasibility Study comes in. At RISE Design Studio, we provide a structured feasibility process that clarifies your options, aligns your vision with reality, and ensures your investment is well-planned.
Architectural Feasibility Studies are typically presented in A3 format for clarity and ease of review.
Below, we answer common questions about what’s involved and what you can expect from a Feasibility Study with us.
What is a Feasibility Study?
A Feasibility Study is a crucial early-stage assessment that explores the practicality of your project. It considers site conditions, planning policies, design possibilities, and budget constraints to help you make informed decisions.
Feasibility Studies include a thorough analysis of the existing plans and site context to assess potential opportunities and constraints.
Why do I need a Feasibility Study?
Before committing to full architectural services, a feasibility study provides clarity and confidence in your project. It helps:
→ Define what’s possible – Ensuring your vision aligns with reality.→ Identify constraints early – Avoiding costly surprises later.
→ Explore different design approaches – Finding the best solution for your needs.
→ Ensure budget alignment – Matching your expectations with realistic costs.
Architectural plans, elevations, sections, and 3D visuals are included to provide a clear understanding of the different design options.
What does the Feasibility Study include?
Our feasibility study provides a comprehensive overview of your project, including:
⦿ Site Analysis
- Evaluating existing conditions, access, orientation, and surrounding context.
- Identifying planning constraints and legal restrictions.
⦿ Initial Brief Development
- Understanding your goals, lifestyle needs, and sustainability ambitions.
- Discussing Passivhaus principles and low-energy design options.
⦿ Planning & Policy Review
- Researching local authority guidelines and previous planning history.
- Assessing the likelihood of securing planning permission.
⦿ Design Explorations
- Conceptual sketches and 3D visuals to test different layouts and forms.
- Exploring massing, light, and material choices.
⦿ Cost Plan & Project Timeline
- A detailed Cost Plan ensures financial clarity from the outset.
- A Gantt Chart outlines key design and approval stages, so you know what to expect.
⦿ Next Steps & Recommendations
- Defining the best route forward, whether refining the design or moving to the next stage.
- Suggesting additional surveys if required.
Precedents and mood boards are curated for each key space, providing inspiration and guiding the design direction.
How much does a Feasibility Study cost?
We believe in transparent and fair pricing - which is why we don’t do generic 10% fee proposals. Instead, we tailor our fees precisely and accurately to reflect the specific scope of your project.
💡 We don’t overcharge. We charge fairly, based on the work required.
Our approach ensures that you pay only for the necessary services, without inflated percentages that don’t reflect the true value of what you receive.
How long does a Feasibility Study take?
The timeframe can vary depending on the complexity of the project, but generally, a feasibility study takes 2 to 4 weeks. This allows sufficient time for research, design exploration, and meaningful discussions with you.
3D sections provide a clearer, more detailed understanding of the design, helping to visualize spatial relationships and construction elements more effectively.
What happens after the Feasibility Study?
Once complete, the study gives you a clear roadmap for your project. If viable, we can move on to the next steps, such as Concept Design, Planning Applications, and Detailed Design. If adjustments are needed, we refine the approach before committing to full design development.
3D visuals provide a clear and immersive representation of your project
Why invest in a Feasibility Study?
A Feasibility Study is a smart investment that prevents costly mistakes later in the process. It ensures that your project is well-planned, realistic, and aligned with planning policies and budget constraints.
At RISE Design Studio, we bring a sustainable, thoughtful approach to architecture. Our feasibility studies set the foundation for projects that are beautifully designed, energy-efficient, and tailored to your needs.
A detailed Cost Plan and Gantt Chart provide clarity on budget expectations and project timelines, ensuring a well-structured and efficient design process from concept to completion.
